Summer Tax Bills are mailed the first week in July. Property taxes are payable without penalty until 5:00 pm on September 14th;  Payments may be made online at carmeltownship-mi.gov; by mail, in person or placed in the drop box at the Township hall, or at Independent Bank-Charlotte Branch, 129 Lansing Rd, during normal business hours (please check the bank’s website for hours of operation).

Winter Tax Bills are mailed the first week of December. Property taxes are payable without penalty until 5:00 pm on February 14th; if this date falls on a weekend or holiday, payment is due the following business day. Payments may be made by mail, in person or placed in the drop box at the Township hall, or at Independence Bank-Charlotte Branch, 129 Lansing Rd, during normal business hours (please check the bank’s website for hours of operation).

 

For payment by check:  Please make check payable to Carmel Township Treasurer.  Please write your phone number and Parcel number or property address in the Memo section of your check.  Checks are accepted as a conditional payment; if not honored by the bank, the tax is unpaid and subject to and interest.  Payments made by US Mail are accepted by post mark date.

 

After the last day of February, unpaid Summer and Winter taxes are turned over to the Eaton County Treasurer.  Carmel Township cannot accept payment on delinquent real property; nor has the authority to waive any part of the tax, penalty, interest, or any other related fee.  Contact the Eaton County Treasurer at 517-543-4262.

 

Name and/or Address Changes? Change of name and/or address should be promptly reported. If you have sold your property and received a statement in error, please forward the statement to the new owner or return it to the County Equalization/Property Description Office with corrections of name and/or address.

 

Resources:

The Michigan Homeowner Assistance Nonprofit Housing Corporation (MHA) to assist homeowners who are being foreclosed.  Offered through MSHDA, this program provides up to $30,000 in assistance paid directly to participating mortgage servicers and/or the County Treasurer.  Recipients receive a 0% interest note which requires no payments and is forgivable over a 5-year term at 20% per year.  Contact your Treasurer for more information at 888-805-6182 Ext. 2.
